How to Evaluate a Paid Trading Indicator Before Buying

A paid trading indicator can be evaluated in under an hour by asking seven questions of its public materials. The aim is not to find a winner but to learn whether the claim can be checked at all.

What are the seven questions?

They are: what is the claim, what sample supports it, what settings were used, what are the misses, does it repaint, what are the trial terms, and what can it not do.

# Question Red flag
1 What is the claim? Vague promises, no countable statement
2 What sample supports it? No instruments, period or count given
3 What settings were used? Results shown only for tuned inputs
4 What are the misses? Only winning examples shown
5 Does it repaint? Closed bars that change after the fact
6 What are the trial terms? No trial, or auto-billing without notice
7 What can it not do? No limits stated anywhere

‍

Questions 2 to 4 are where most listings fall short. A figure without a sample, settings or misses cannot be reproduced.

How would the Behavioral Transform Model answer?

Its claim is that the next close lands inside the inner band ~71% of the time and the outer band ~94%, historically, across 40 instruments in five asset classes, with a 97-year S&P 500 history. The misses, such as ~65% containment at crisis onset, are published on the Proof page. It does not generate signals, and the paper validates calibration, not profitability.

‍

Its trial is 30 days free, with cancellation at any time. Past behavior is not a guarantee of future results.

What does a good answer to all seven still not prove?

It does not prove profit or fit. A fully documented indicator can still be a poor match for a given workflow, and the checklist measures verifiability, not value after costs.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a free trial be?

Long enough to see the indicator across more than one volatility regime on your own charts; see is a 30-day free trial enough.

‍

What if the code is hidden?

Hidden code is common for invite-only indicators. It shifts the burden of evidence to the author, so the published claim and test matter more; see invite-only scripts.

‍

Can the checklist be applied to free indicators?

Yes. The questions do not depend on price.
